💼 About the Vacancy
The Research Unit of the Family Health Bureau is recruiting a Research Assistant on a temporary basis to support ongoing research studies.
The position is connected with research relating to:
Emergency Obstetric and Newborn Care Needs (EmONC) Assessment
and
Child Nutrition Service Provision in-depth Assessment to Identify the Root Causes for Service Provision Gaps in Selected Sentinel Sites of Sri Lanka.
🎓 Qualifications & Experience
Applicants should be a:
Pre-intern Medical Graduate with an M.B.B.S. qualification who is getting the internship in 2027.
The advertisement also identifies the following desired skills and experience:
- Hard-working and motivated individual.
- Ability to work with Microsoft Office applications, including Word and Excel.
- Previous experience in scientific research, proposal writing, obtaining ethical clearance, data collection, data entry and analysis will be preferred.
- Good command of English and Sinhala and/or Tamil languages.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
📋 Duties & Responsibilities
The recruited Research Assistant / Pre-intern Medical Graduate will be expected to assist with activities including:
- Facilitating consultative meetings, sensitization programmes and training workshops relevant to research activities.
- Preparing necessary documents, minutes, reports and proposals.
- Travelling to peripheral districts with relevant research teams when necessary to assist supervisory visits.
- Collecting research data using relevant data collection tools and instruments.
- Coordinating focus group discussions.
- Coordinating the data collection process with regional staff members and institutional heads.
- Coordinating data collection groups with the central team.
- Following up with field teams when required.
- Supporting data entry, cleaning, processing, analysis, report writing and final submissions.
- Facilitating research results dissemination workshops where required.
- Maintaining a research repository at the Research Unit, FHB.
- Carrying out other duties assigned by the Head of the Research Unit.
💰 Monthly Remuneration
The monthly remuneration for the position is:
Rs. 94,265.00
This consists of:
Basic Salary: Rs. 76,465.00
Cost of Living Allowance: Rs. 17,800.00

The appointment is for a period of five (5) months.
