South Eastern University of Sri Lanka has invited applications for the Diploma in English Programme for the academic intake 2027/2028.
The programme is conducted by the Department of English Language Teaching under the Faculty of Arts & Culture. It provides a strong English-language foundation for students interested in pursuing further studies, including a BA External Degree with English as a subject.

Candidates who sat the 2026 GCE Advanced Level Examination may also apply. They must submit their examination results when officially released.
Admission Requirements
Applicants should satisfy one of the following qualification categories:
Category 1
Three passes in any stream at the GCE Advanced Level Examination in one sitting.
Category 2
Completion of a Foundation Course equivalent to SLQF Level 2, such as an Advanced Certificate, after completing a minimum of 12 years of schooling.
Category 3
Completion of NVQ Level 4 or a higher NVQ qualification.
Category 4
Possession of an equivalent qualification recognised by the Faculty Board and Senate of South Eastern University of Sri Lanka.
Category 5
A pass in the GCE Ordinary Level Examination, including a “B” pass in English Language, together with four years of work experience in a government or private institution.
Relevant experience may include teaching, clerical or allied-grade employment.
Additional English Requirement
Candidates applying under Categories 1 to 4 should also possess one of the following:
- At least a “C” pass in English Language at the GCE Ordinary Level Examination
OR
- At least an “S” pass in General English at the GCE Advanced Level Examination
Passing the selection test is compulsory for registration in the programme.

The programme includes:
- Reading Skills
- Writing Skills
- Structure of English I and II
- Speaking and Listening
- Translation Skills
- Introduction to Linguistics
- Introduction to Literature
- Communication Skills
- Presentation Skills
Duration and Delivery
The programme duration is one year, and it is recognised at SLQF Level 3.
Classes will be conducted during weekends through face-to-face teaching. The tentative commencement date is December 2026.
Course Fee
The total course fee is Rs. 60,000.
It can be paid in two instalments of Rs. 30,000 each.
Application and Selection-Test Fee
Applicants must pay a non-refundable application and selection-test fee of Rs. 1,000.
