The Department of Social Studies of the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, The Open University of Sri Lanka, invites applications for the Bachelor of Arts in Youth and Community Development Degree Programme for the 2026/2027 academic intake.
ABOUT THE PROGRAMME
The Bachelor of Arts in Youth and Community Development is designed for individuals interested in working with young people and communities.
The programme is relevant to individuals already employed in public, private and non-governmental organizations, as well as those seeking career advancement or a career change in youth and community development.
The programme develops knowledge and practical competencies related to:
- Youth and community development
- Youth-related health interventions
- Vocational education
- Leadership and civic participation
- Community engagement
- Policy development and implementation
- Research and evaluation
- Financial and social services for young people
PROGRAMME DURATION
The complete Bachelor of Arts Degree Programme has a duration of three years.
The programme offers recognized exit qualifications at different academic levels:
- Diploma in Youth and Community Development after successfully completing the required SLQF Level 3 credits
- Higher Diploma in Youth and Community Development after successfully completing the required SLQF Level 4 credits
- Bachelor of Arts in Youth and Community Development after successfully completing the required SLQF Levels 3, 4 and 5 credits
MEDIUM OF INSTRUCTION
The programme is conducted in English.
ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
Applicants should possess one of the following qualifications:
- Three passes at the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination in any subject stream; or
- Completion of 30 course credits at Level 2 or above from a programme offered by an approved higher education institution; or
- Completion of NVQ Level 4 or accredited work experience equivalent to NVQ Level 4; or
- An equivalent or higher qualification acceptable to the Senate of The Open University of Sri Lanka.
