The Counselling Psychology Unit of the Institute of Human Resource Advancement, University of Colombo, invites applications for admission to the Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology Programme for the 2026/2027 intake.

The programme is designed to strengthen participants’ theoretical knowledge, practical counselling abilities, professional competencies and research skills.

PROGRAMME DETAILS

  • Programme: Postgraduate Diploma in Counselling Psychology
  • Duration: One year
  • Class days: Weekends
  • Class time: 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.
  • Delivery method: Physical and online sessions
  • Medium of instruction: Sinhala and English
  • Programme commencement: January 2027

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS

Applicants should possess one of the following qualifications:

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field from a recognized university.

OR

  1. A Bachelor’s Degree in any field from a recognized university, together with at least one year of work experience in a field relevant to the programme.

OR

  1. An equivalent qualification from a recognized professional or vocational body acceptable to the Board of Study on Postgraduate Studies, the Board of Management of IHRA and the Senate of the University of Colombo, together with one year of prior learning or work experience in a relevant field.

OR

  1. A Higher Diploma or Executive Diploma in a relevant field offered by the Institute of Human Resource Advancement, University of Colombo, together with two years of relevant work experience.

  • Theories of Counselling
  • Abnormal Psychology
  • Child Development and Pathology
  • Counselling Skills and Practice
  • Counselling Techniques
  • Ethics and Specialities in Counselling Practice
  • Research Methodology and Project Report
