Programme Overview

The Department of Computer Science & Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Moratuwa, invites applications for the 2027 intake of the MSc in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence postgraduate degree programme.

The programme is designed for practising professionals with an engineering or science background who wish to acquire advanced technical knowledge and practical exposure in emerging areas of data science and artificial intelligence.

Compared with the Data Science and Engineering specialisation offered under the MSc in Computer Science, this programme provides more advanced coverage of machine learning, deep learning, artificial intelligence and data science, together with core software engineering and computer science topics.

Eligibility Requirements

Applicants should satisfy at least one of the following requirements:

Option 1

An Honours Degree of Bachelor of the Science of Engineering awarded by the University of Moratuwa.

Option 2

A recognised four-year bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science or Technology in a field relevant to data science and/or artificial intelligence, as determined by the Faculty of Engineering and approved by the Senate.

Option 3

A recognised three-year bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science or Technology in a field relevant to data science and/or artificial intelligence, together with at least one year of appropriate post-qualifying experience.

The qualification and experience must be acceptable to the Faculty of Engineering and approved by the Senate.

Option 4

A recognised category of membership in a recognised professional institution obtained through an academic route, together with at least one year of appropriate post-qualifying experience.

The membership and experience must be acceptable to the Faculty of Engineering and approved by the Senate.

Selection Process

Applicants who satisfy the eligibility requirements will be notified by the university and invited to participate in a selection test.

Candidates shortlisted through the selection test will subsequently be invited for an interview conducted by the Department of Computer Science & Engineering.

Programme Duration and Commencement

The MSc in Data Science and Artificial Intelligence is an SLQF Level 10 postgraduate programme conducted on a part-time basis over two years.

The 2027 intake is scheduled to commence on 02 January 2027.
