The Central Environmental Authority, functioning under the Ministry of Environment, has invited applications from qualified and experienced candidates for Assistant Director positions in Administration and Legal.
Applicants should possess proficiency in English, computer literacy and familiarity with government regulations.
Available Positions
Assistant Director – Administration
Service Category: MM 1-1
Qualifications for External Applicants
Applicants should possess a degree recognized by the University Grants Commission in one of the following fields:
- Human Resources Management
- Business Management
- Public Management
- Supply Management
Applicants should also possess at least five years of post-qualification experience at Executive Level in one or more of the following areas:
- Personnel Management
- Human Resource Management
- General Administration
- Supply Management
The required experience should have been obtained after completing the first degree.
Qualifications for Internal Applicants
Internal applicants should possess the qualifications required from external applicants.
Alternatively, they should have completed five years of satisfactory service in Human Resources Management or General Administration at Junior Manager level in the Central Environmental Authority.
Assistant Director – Legal
Service Category: MM 1-1
Qualifications for External Applicants
Applicants should possess:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Law recognized by the University Grants Commission
- Enrolment as an Attorney-at-Law
- A minimum of five years of post-qualification experience at the Bar as a practising lawyer
Qualifications for Internal Applicants
Internal applicants should possess the qualifications required from external applicants.
Alternatively, they should have completed five years of satisfactory service as a Legal Officer at Junior Manager level in the Central Environmental Authority.
Age Limit
Applicants should be not less than 22 years and not more than 45 years of age.
The upper age limit will not apply to applicants who are already employed in the state service.
Salary and Allowances
The applicable salary scale is:
Rs. 91,690 – 10 × 2,480 – 15 × 3,450 – Rs. 168,240
Salary placement will be implemented as follows under Management Services Circular No. 01/2025:
- Salary step from 01 January 2026: Rs. 81,710
- Salary step from 01 January 2027: Rs. 91,690
Additional benefits include:
- Cost-of-living allowance of Rs. 17,800
- Professional allowance of Rs. 25,000 per month

General Requirements
Every applicant should:
- Be a citizen of Sri Lanka
- Be physically and mentally fit to discharge the duties of the post
- Be prepared to serve in any part of Sri Lanka
- Possess excellent moral character
- Have proficiency in English
- Be familiar with government regulations
- Possess computer literacy

Recruitment Procedure
Candidates shortlisted according to the required qualifications and experience will be called for a written competitive examination and/or structured interview.
Final selection will be based on the merit list prepared according to the approved Scheme of Recruitment.
Nature of Appointment
The appointment is permanent, with entitlement to the Employees’ Provident Fund and Employees’ Trust Fund.
