Available Academic Positions
The Open University of Sri Lanka invites applications from suitably qualified candidates for academic positions in the Department of Early Childhood and Primary Education, Faculty of Education.
The available academic grades are:
- Lecturer (Probationary)
- Lecturer (Unconfirmed)
- Senior Lecturer Grade II
- Senior Lecturer Grade I
The selected candidate will serve at the Colombo Regional Centre.
Educational Qualifications
Lecturer (Probationary)
Applicants should possess one of the following qualifications:
- A Bachelor of Education Honours Degree with a First Class or Second Class Upper Division; or
- A Bachelor of Education Honours Degree with a Second Class Lower Division; or
- A Bachelor of Education Honours Degree without a class or another degree with at least a Second Class, together with an approved postgraduate qualification.
Acceptable postgraduate qualifications include:
- A doctoral degree in Education, particularly Early Childhood or Primary Education;
- A master’s degree in Education completed through at least 24 months of full-time study or an equivalent part-time programme with a thesis or dissertation; or
- A full-time master’s degree of at least 18 months with a minimum of 60 credits, including at least 15 research credits.
Preference will be given to candidates with proven ability in writing and teaching in Sinhala together with English.
All candidates applying for the Lecturer (Probationary) position must make a presentation before the Selection Committee to demonstrate their teaching ability.
Lecturer (Unconfirmed)
Applicants should possess the qualifications required for Lecturer (Probationary), together with an approved doctoral or research-based master’s degree in Education, particularly Early Childhood or Primary Education.
Applicants should have less than six years of relevant experience in university teaching, professional work, research or postgraduate studies.
Senior Lecturer Grade II
Applicants should possess the qualifications required for Lecturer (Probationary), together with an approved doctoral or research-based master’s degree.
A minimum of six years of relevant experience in university teaching, professional work, research or postgraduate studies is required.
Senior Lecturer Grade I
Applicants should possess the qualifications required for Lecturer (Probationary), together with an approved doctoral or research-based master’s degree.
A minimum of 12 years of relevant experience is required. At least six years of this experience should have been obtained after acquiring the relevant postgraduate qualification.
Monthly Salary Scales
Senior Lecturer Grade I
- Salary scale: Rs. 160,520 – Rs. 187,820
- Initial salary step: Rs. 160,520
- Academic allowance: 116% plus Rs. 2,200
Senior Lecturer Grade II
- Salary scale: Rs. 138,980 – Rs. 171,320
- Initial salary step: Rs. 138,980
- Academic allowance: 116% plus Rs. 2,100
Lecturer (Unconfirmed)
- Salary scale: Rs. 121,340 – Rs. 136,040
- Initial salary step: Rs. 121,340
- Academic allowance: 102% plus Rs. 1,800
Lecturer (Probationary)
- Salary scale: Rs. 94,400 – Rs. 118,400
- Initial salary step: Rs. 94,400
- Academic allowance: 91% plus Rs. 1,200
Cost-of-living and other approved allowances will also be paid according to applicable university regulations.
Employment Benefits
The selected candidate will become a contributor to the Universities Provident Fund by contributing 10% of the monthly salary.
The University will contribute to the University Pension Scheme, University Provident Fund and Employees’ Trust Fund according to the applicable rates.
Senior Lecturer Grade II and higher-grade appointees may qualify for sabbatical leave after completing the required period of service.
