The Registrar General’s Department of Sri Lanka has invited applications for several Registrar positions in the Matara and Galle Districts, according to two official recruitment notices published in the Government Gazette dated 02 October 2026.
Applications are invited for Muslim Marriage Registrar positions in Matara and Births, Deaths and Marriages / Additional Marriage Registrar positions in Galle.
Important: These are unpaid service appointments, not regular salaried government employment positions.

Sinhala Gazette Notice
1. Muslim Marriage Registrar Vacancies – Matara District
Applications are invited for the following Muslim Marriage Registrar positions (Sinhala Medium):

Eligibility Requirements
- Applicants must be Muslim males.
- Must be permanent residents of the relevant Muslim Marriage Registration Division.
- Must be between 30 and 55 years of age on the closing date.
- Must be married, and must not be widowed or divorced.
- Must possess sufficient property and be persons of good standing and character in the community.
- Must have passed six subjects at G.C.E. O/L, including at least two credit passes, one of which must be in the relevant Sinhala/Tamil language, within no more than two sittings, or possess an accepted equivalent qualification.
- A Moulavi Certificate or Arabic Diploma Certificate is accepted as satisfying the stated basic educational requirement.
- Must be capable of performing duties in a second language according to the needs of the division.
- Must be able to establish a suitable office in a central and accessible location within the relevant division.
Service Conditions: The post is unpaid. The stated retirement age is 65, with possible annual extensions up to age 70 subject to the conditions in the notice.
2. Births, Deaths and Marriages Registrar Vacancies – Galle District
Applications are invited for the following Sinhala-medium Registrar positions:

Eligibility Requirements
- Both male and female applicants may apply.
- Applicants must permanently reside in the relevant registration division.
- Applicants must be between 30 and 55 years of age on the closing date.
- Applicants must possess sufficient property and have good standing in the community.
- Applicants must have passed six G.C.E. O/L subjects, including at least two credit passes with a credit in Sinhala, within a maximum of two sittings, or an accepted equivalent qualification.
- Ability to perform duties in a second language according to local requirements is necessary.
- Applicants must be able to establish a suitable and accessible office within the division.
- Applicants for Marriage Registrar positions must be married and must not be widowed or divorced.
Service Conditions: These are unpaid appointments. The normal retirement age is 65, with possible annual extensions up to age 70 according to the Gazette conditions.
