Bursar Vacancy 2026 – South Eastern University of Sri Lanka

The South Eastern University of Sri Lanka has invited applications from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Bursar.

Government-approved allowances applicable to the university system will be paid in addition to the salary.

Required Qualifications

Applicants must qualify under one of the following categories.

Category 1

Applicants should possess:

  • Membership of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CASL) or an equivalent qualification
  • At least six years of executive-level accounting and/or auditing experience obtained after acquiring the above qualification

Category 2

A confirmed Deputy Accountant, Deputy Bursar or Deputy Internal Auditor in the University Grants Commission or a Higher Educational Institution may apply if the applicant has:

  • Three years of satisfactory service in the post
  • At least one year of that service after obtaining CASL membership or an equivalent qualification

Category 3

A confirmed Senior Assistant Accountant, Senior Assistant Bursar or Senior Assistant Internal Auditor may apply with:

  • Ten years of executive-level accounting and/or auditing experience
  • At least eight years of satisfactory service in the relevant Senior Assistant post in the university system
  • At least three years of that experience after acquiring CASL membership or its equivalent

Category 4

A confirmed Deputy Accountant, Deputy Bursar or Deputy Internal Auditor may apply with:

  • Intermediate qualification of CASL or an equivalent qualification
  • A Master’s Degree in Accountancy, Finance or Management from a recognized university or higher educational institution
  • Twelve years of executive accounting and/or auditing experience after completing the Intermediate qualification
  • At least ten years of service as a Senior Assistant Accountant, Senior Assistant Bursar, Senior Assistant Internal Auditor or above in the university system

Category 5

A confirmed Deputy Accountant, Deputy Bursar or Deputy Internal Auditor with three years of satisfactory service may apply with:

  • A recognized Bachelor’s Degree
  • CASL Intermediate qualification, an equivalent qualification or HNDA
  • Fourteen years of executive accounting and/or auditing experience after acquiring the Intermediate qualification or HNDA
  • At least five years of relevant university-system service in a Deputy or Senior Assistant post carrying salary code U-EX 2(1)

Category 6

A confirmed Deputy Accountant, Deputy Bursar or Deputy Internal Auditor may apply with:

  • A recognized Bachelor’s Degree, CASL Intermediate qualification, an equivalent qualification or HNDA
  • At least eighteen years of accounting and/or auditing experience in the university system
  • At least three years of that experience in a Deputy Accountant, Deputy Bursar or Deputy Internal Auditor post

Category 7

An Accountant Grade II officer of the Sri Lanka Accountants’ Service may apply if the applicant possesses:

  • CASL membership or an equivalent qualification

OR

  • A recognized Master’s Degree in Accountancy, Finance or Management

For this vacancy, a Management Degree should be in Management, Public Administration or Business Administration with a major component in Accounting and Finance.

Salary and Benefits

The applicable salary scale is:

U-EX 3(II): Rs. 166,130 – 7 × 3,900; 11 × 4,850 – Rs. 246,780 per month

Government-approved university allowances will also be paid.

The successful candidate will additionally be eligible for:

  • An assigned vehicle with the approved fuel allowance
  • Sabbatical leave subject to the applicable service requirements
  • Universities Provident Fund and University Pension Scheme benefits
  • Gratuity in accordance with the Payment of Gratuity Act

The appointee must contribute 10% of the monthly salary to the Provident Fund. Employer contributions will be made according to the prevailing university regulations.

Selection Method

Selection will be conducted through a structured interview.

Applicants obtaining at least 40% at the structured interview will be eligible for consideration.

The University reserves the right to shortlist applicants.
