🎓 Basic Educational Qualifications

Applicants should generally have:

Passed three subjects in one sitting at the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination.
Passed six subjects at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination within not more than two sittings, subject to the required passes/credit passes in Mathematics, English and the mother tongue as specified in the official Gazette.

Each branch has additional academic, professional, degree and/or experience requirements.

Applicants should therefore carefully check the qualification requirements applicable to the specific branch and rank before applying.

🎯 Age Limits

Age requirements vary according to the selected branch and rank.

Depending on the position, the Gazette specifies maximum age limits including:

Below 30 years
Below / up to 32 years
Below 35 years
Below 45 years for the specified specialist medical position

Applicants must satisfy the applicable age requirement as at the closing date.

📏 General Physical Requirements

Applicants must be Sri Lankan citizens.

Minimum Height:

👨 Male: 5′ 6″ (167.64 cm)
👩 Female: 5′ 3″ (160.02 cm)

⚖️ BMI:
Male / Female: 17–27

Male applicants should have a minimum chest measurement of 32 inches (81.28 cm).

Applicable eyesight, colour vision and medical standards specified by the Sri Lanka Navy must also be satisfied.

🏃 Physical Fitness Test

Candidates who successfully complete the applicable preliminary medical screening may be required to undergo a physical fitness test.

The Gazette specifies:

🏃 1600m Run

Male – 9 minutes
Female – 11 minutes

💪 Push-ups within 1 minute

Male – 12 or more
Female – 8 or more

🏋️ Sit-ups / Curl-ups within 1 minute

Male – 10 or more
Female – 7 or more

💰 Salary & Allowances

Payments will be made according to Management Services Circular No. 10/2025.

For non-medical branches, the Gazette provides the following indicative total monthly amounts:

💰 Acting Sub Lieutenant – Rs. 122,902.80
💰 Sub Lieutenant – Rs. 131,609.80
💰 Lieutenant – Rs. 143,772.80

These totals include the basic salary and specified allowances shown in the official Gazette.

Separate salary and allowance structures apply to medical grades.
