Required Academic Qualifications
Applicants must initially satisfy one of the following degree requirements:
Option 1
A First Class or Second Class Upper Division in a Special Degree.
Option 2
One of the following:
- Second Class Lower Division in a Special Degree; or
- First Class or Second Class Upper Division in a General Degree.
Option 3
A pass in a degree examination together with a postgraduate degree of at least two academic years in Library and Information Sciences, including a research component through a thesis or dissertation.
Additional Higher Qualification
In addition to the applicable degree requirement, applicants must possess:
- A Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science obtained after at least two academic years of full-time study, or an equivalent part-time programme, with a thesis or dissertation research component; or
- A Doctoral Degree.
The notice states that no credit will be given under this requirement for a postgraduate degree already recognized under the third initial qualification route for appointment as Assistant Librarian.
Publications
Applicants must possess publications in the field of Library and Information Sciences.
Experience
Applicants must possess either:
- At least 15 years of experience after obtaining the first degree; or
- At least 10 years of experience after obtaining the specified Master’s or Doctoral qualification.
This experience must be in one or both of the following:
- Librarianship in a recognized library.
- Research in Library and Information Sciences.
Applicants must also obtain the minimum marks specified in the marking scheme for the Post of Librarian.
Salary and Allowances
Salary Scale
U-AC 5 (II): Rs. 198,280 – 13 × Rs. 4,850 – Rs. 261,330 per month
Additional Allowances
- Academic Allowance: 124% of basic salary + Rs. 13,300
- Research Allowance: 21%, payable based on research activity
- Cost-of-Living Allowance: Rs. 17,800 per month
