Applications are invited for the Open Competitive Examination for recruitment to Grade III of the post of Superintendent of Works in the Supervisory Management Assistant Technical Service Category of the Land Commissioner General’s Department.

Two vacancies will be filled based on the results of a written examination and a general interview.

Educational Qualifications

Applicants should have passed the G.C.E. Advanced Level Examination in one sitting in three Science subjects consisting of:

Combined Mathematics; and
Any two subjects selected from Physics, Chemistry and Engineering Technology.

Applicants should also have passed six subjects at the G.C.E. Ordinary Level Examination in one sitting.

Credit passes must have been obtained in:

Sinhala, Tamil or English Language
Science
Mathematics
One other subject

Professional Qualifications

Applicants should possess one of the following qualifications:

National Diploma in Technology awarded by the University of Moratuwa or Hardy Advanced Technological Institute, Ampara
National Diploma in Engineering Sciences awarded by NAITA
Higher National Diploma in Engineering
Diploma in Technology awarded by the Open University of Sri Lanka
Successful completion of Part I of the Engineering Examination conducted by the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka
Relevant NVQ Level 6 qualification
Another equivalent technical qualification recognized by the Tertiary and Vocational Education Commission

Other Eligibility Requirements

Every applicant must:

Be a citizen of Sri Lanka
Possess excellent moral character
Be physically and mentally fit to serve in any part of Sri Lanka
Have completed all required qualifications by the application closing date

Age Limit

Applicants should be between 18 and 30 years of age as of 05 October 2026.

Eligible applicants should have been born:

On or before 05 October 2008; and
On or after 05 October 1996.

Salary and Service Conditions

The applicable monthly salary scale is:

Rs. 52,250 – 10×800 – 11×1,190 – 10×1,320 – 10×1,350 – Rs. 100,040

The appointment is permanent and pensionable. Selected candidates will be required to complete a three-year probation period.

They must also obtain the prescribed proficiency in the other official language within three years of entering the service.

Written Examination

The examination will be held in Colombo in Sinhala and Tamil mediums. Applicants cannot change their selected examination medium later.

The examination consists of two papers:

Intelligence Quotient

Duration: 01 hour
Total marks: 100
Pass mark: 40%

This paper will assess logical thinking, analytical skills and decision-making ability.

Subject-Related Technical Examination

Duration: 03 hours
Total marks: 100
Pass mark: 40%

The syllabus includes:

Building construction
Brick and stone masonry
Concrete and plastering
Roofing
Painting and protective finishes
Road construction
Culverts and retaining walls
Water supply and drainage
Basic electrical engineering processes

Interview

Candidates obtaining at least 40% for each written paper will be ranked according to their total marks.

A number of candidates equal to the number of expected appointments will be called for the general interview.

No marks will be awarded at the interview. It will be conducted only to verify certificates, qualifications and physical fitness.

Examination Fee

The examination fee is Rs. 500.
