Educational Qualifications

Information Technology

Applicants should possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science or a BSc degree with Computer Science as a subject from a university recognized by the University Grants Commission.

An equivalent qualification recognized by the University Grants Commission may also be accepted.

Architect and Interior Designer

Applicants should possess a four-year full-time degree in Architecture recognized by the University Grants Commission and the Sri Lanka Institute of Architects, or an accepted equivalent qualification.

Associate or Corporate Membership of the relevant professional architects’ institute is also required.

Electrical Engineer

A four-year full-time degree in Electrical Engineering or Electronics recognized by the University Grants Commission and the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, or an accepted equivalent qualification is required.

Civil Engineer

Applicants should possess a four-year full-time degree in Civil Engineering recognized by the University Grants Commission and the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, or an accepted equivalent qualification.

Telecommunication Engineer

A four-year full-time degree in Telecommunication Engineering or Electronics recognized by the University Grants Commission and the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka, or an accepted equivalent qualification is required.

Applicants for the engineering posts should possess Associate or Corporate Membership of the Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka.

Experience

  • Information Technology applicants should possess at least one year of relevant post-degree experience.
  • Applicants for the Architect, Interior Designer and Engineering posts should possess at least three years of relevant post-degree experience at a recognized institution.

Age and General Requirements

Applicants should:

  • Be between 25 and 45 years of age as of the closing date
  • Be citizens of Sri Lanka
  • Possess excellent character
  • Be physically and mentally fit
  • Be willing to serve in any part of Sri Lanka
  • Meet the stipulated eyesight and physical requirements
  • Have no prohibited artificial body modifications, including tattoos

Both married and unmarried candidates may apply.

Physical Requirements

Male Applicants

  • Minimum height: 5 feet 6 inches
  • Minimum chest measurement: 32 inches when exhaled

Female Applicants

  • Minimum height: 5 feet 4 inches

Applicants should possess eyesight of 6/6 and 6/12, with or without spectacles or contact lenses, together with normal colour vision.

Exceptions may be considered for candidates possessing exceptional professional skills, subject to the discretion of the Inspector General of Police.

Salary and Allowances

The applicable monthly salary scale is:

Rs. 82,150 – 10×2,400 – 8×2,940 – 17×3,900 – Rs. 195,970

Salary Code: SL 1–2025

The payable salary portion for 2026 is Rs. 74,438. The payable amount from 01 January 2027 will be Rs. 82,150.

The following allowances are also mentioned:

  • 22% of the basic salary plus Rs. 1,250
  • Applicable executive allowance
  • Difficult allowance of Rs. 2,000
  • Cost-of-living allowance of Rs. 17,800
  • Food and accommodation allowance of Rs. 34,800

Selection Process

Selection will include:

  • Preliminary screening
  • Structured interview
  • Background investigation
  • Medical examination
  • Merit-based final selection

The structured interview carries 100 marks:

  • Additional qualifications – 30 marks
  • Relevant experience – 30 marks
  • Additional language and computer skills – 20 marks
  • Leadership and community service – 10 marks
  • Interview Board assessment – 10 marks

Selected candidates must pass the medical examination conducted by the Police Hospital. Successful candidates will receive training at the Sri Lanka Police College.
